Is hiking or exercising with a dog in hot weather always a bad idea?
In our Puppy section, how do I get my puppy to give me back the ball when we start playing fetch
Details In this Session
Dogs in hot weather:
Looks for three things that indicate heat stress in your dog:
- Excessive panting
- Lethargy
- Seeking shade and water
If your dog has gone past heat exhaustion on the way to heat stroke, you’ll notice an increase in those three signs as well as the following (get your dog to the ER immediately in this case):
- Wobbling (they look unstable in their back legs when walking)
- Red tongue, lips and gums
- Flopping down on their side with their mouth wide open, panting
If you give your dog some form of balanced negative feedback, be sure to re-bond with them afterward.
Puppies and fetch:
You’ll need three things:
- A long line
- Treats
- Two identical fetch toys
Start by trading the ball for treats and then reward the dropping of the first ball with the throwing of the second ball.
